Why we support The Lighthouse Club
Jul 07, 2022
Mental health and wellbeing are important to us all but particularly those who work in the construction industry. That’s why we’re proud to be continuing as a corporate supporter of The Lighthouse Club, the charity that supports construction industry workers and their families, providing financial support and practical tools such as an emergency helpline for those in need.
Did you know:
- 2 construction workers take their own life every working day
- Every year there are more than 82,000 new cases of work-related illness that can be directly attributed to working in construction
- Stress, depression or anxiety accounts for 27% of all work-related illness in construction
- Every year over 2.4m working days are lost due to illness or injury in the construction sector
- Last year there were 39 fatalities on building sites
What does the Lighthouse Club do?
The organisation has created a freely available, industry-wide framework and charter to tackle what they call the mental health crisis in the construction industry. This includes a 5-step programme to help organisations build a better mental health culture as well as mental health first aid training. There is also a 24/7 confidential helpline and an app to make it easy for people to access the support they need.
Campaigning for people
The Lighthouse Club is increasing awareness of the importance of mental health in the construction industry with its latest campaign, Help Inside the Hard Hat. The campaign includes various resources for employers and other organisations to help promote the Lighthouse Club’s support services to construction industry workers.
Our support
Paul McDonnell, MD of Crest Plus, said: “As the UK’s largest provider of payment solutions to the construction, trades and labour market, we want to show our support for the amazing people who work in this industry.
“The Lighthouse Club does a fantastic job to promote awareness of mental health and wellbeing, providing emotional, financial and practical support to construction industry workers and their families. We admire the work they do and are extremely proud to be able to continue our support.”
